Auggie, the main character of R. J. Palacio's novel Wonder, was born with a facial deformity. To express both the discomfort, fear and hurt from the gaze of others that Auggie feels, and the unfamiliar feelings that others feel from Auggie, the eyes representing "gaze" and the expressions that evoke such emotions were added.

This creature is a fusion of dragon, snake, bird, and beast—born from broken dreams and untamed imagination. Its twisted form reflects how different worlds, life and death, can collide and still give rise to something both strange and beautiful. The snake entwined around its beak, the floating eyes, and the flowing tail symbolize chaos, endings, and new beginnings unfolding all at once. I created this to express the idea that even when things fall apart or die, new ideas and new worlds can emerge. It stands as a symbol of how imagination can rebuild from ruins, and how beauty exists within both decay and rebirth. 

이 생명체는 용,뱀, 새 와 야수가 융합된 존재로, 부서진 꿈과 야성 그대로의 상상력을 바탕으로 표현했습니다. 비틀린 형체는 삶과 죽음, 서로 다른 세계들이 충돌 하면서도 낯설고 아름다운 무언가가 탄생할 수 있음을 보여줍니다. 부리에 감긴 뱀, 떠다니는 눈, 흘러내리는 꼬리는 혼돈과 종말, 새로운 시작이 동시에 일어나는 모습을 상징합니다. 이 작품은 무언가가 무너지고 죽더라도, 그 속에서 새로운 생각과 세계가 피어날 수 있다는 메시지를 담고자 했습니다. 상상력은 폐허 속에서도 재건할 수 있으며, 아름다움은 삶과 죽음 모두의 안에 존재한다는 것을 상징합니다.

The George Washington Bridge as more than a marvel of engineering it is a symbol of connection. Many people with diverse backgrounds and ethnicities come together to go across this bridge. Each holding their own stories, and cultures. Its towering steel arches and endless cables remind us of the strength found in diversity and each intricate design showing the beauty of unity.

“Hands in Bloom” symbolizes harmony in diversity, as countless hands form a single surreal flower, each unique yet unified. The piece reflects how individuality and cooperation can create beauty. Hands, which serve as tools of touch and action, become petals, evoking both tension and connection. This artwork invites viewers to imagine a world where diverse voices intertwine, forming a stronger, more vibrant whole.

My artwork depicts the theme of diversity in nature, humans, and planets. The artistic intention was to represent the variance in nature, flowers, and planets by coloring them into different colors and shapes to show the difference in each part of the artwork. The title “Bound by Variance” defines the message that even though nature is created into multiple shapes, they would be combined as one, showing its incredibility. For instance, the flowers in the artwork consist of colors, including yellow, pink, and orange. The different colors state that all existing lives don’t have to be the same, and that they could be unique in their way. The uniqueness of each flower, planet, and human connects them, which is shown visually in my artwork.

이 작품은 단조로운 인간 사회의 구조를 차갑고 단단한 콘크리트로 형상화했습니다. 그 속에서 터져 나오는 자연은 억눌린 다양성의 힘이며, 생명을 품은 조화의 가능성입니다. 붉은 색으로 표현된 인물은 답답함을 느끼는 현대인의 모습을 상징합니다. 붉은색이 위험을 경고하는 색인 것처럼, 조화롭지 못한 환경에서 느끼는 인간의 불안을 나타냅니다. 자연은 각기 다른 형태와 색, 움직임을 통해 활기를 불어넣으며, 서로 다름이 모일 때 비로소 완전한 세계가 만들어진다는 메시지를 전달합니다. 저는 이 작품을 통해 조화를 이루는 진정한 힘은 획일성이 아닌 다양성에서 비롯된다는 중요한 사실을 표현하고 싶었습니다.

팔레스타인-이스라엘 전쟁 속 아이의 보도사진을 바탕으로, 고통과 공포에 가득 찬 어린이의 얼굴을 공감하며 그려냈습니다. 이 작품은 피해자의 관점에서 전쟁의 비인간성을 드러내며, 감정의 연대와 공감을 통해 인간 사이의 보편적 정서를 이야기합니다. 서로 다른 문화와 역사 속에서도 아이의 울음은 모두에게 닿습니다. 다양성 속 진정한 조화는 타인의 고통을 외면하지 않는 데에서 시작됩니다.

Whenever I fill out my bio and ethnic identity, I proudly check "Korean American." This identity represents an alliance forged through the shared struggle to honor and remember our heritage. Though separated by the vast Pacific Ocean, our bonds remain strong, drawing us closer in times of global crisis.

과거의 한옥은 전통 재료인 먹으로, 미래적 추상은 칸딘스키의 언어를 빌려 점, 선, 면의 명료함을 표현하였다. 동양의 시간성과 서양의 시각 언어가 충돌 없이 조화를 이루며, 시간과 감각이 만나는 새로운 공간을 만들어 내었다.

My art shows the contrast between the face we show the world and the vulnerable self that lies underneath. In this work, medical hands delicately cut the teen girl’s face in half, revealing what’s hidden beneath. The face we see on the outside is the face we choose to show, or the face we want others to see. The interior shows her true self, made up of human anatomy, bone, and the elements that make her who she is. Inside her mind, there is a collage of food wrappers from different countries and flavors, showing how seemingly unordinary objects like snacks can bring comfort and peace in a world full of chaos, pressure, and expectations.

화면 위쪽에는 기계적 요소와 인체가 결합된 겉으로는 완벽해 보이는 신체가 표현되어 있다. 팔, 다리, 몸은 정교하게 구현되어 있지만 완벽하게 하나의 신체를 이루지 않고 각각 따로 존재하며 사고와 자각의 중심인 머리는 존재하지 않는다. 이는 물질적 완벽함만을 추구하다 사고와 다양성, 인간 본연의 가치를 잃어가는 현대인의 모습을 상징한다. 그 아래의 눈이 셋 달린 검은 인간들은 그러한 비의식적 완벽함을 동경한다. 이들은 스스로 머리를 가지고 있지만 그 가치를 인식하지 못한 채 다양성을 포기하고 세 개의 눈을 통해 서로를 따라하며 획일적인 이상을 따르고 있다. 여기서 다양성은 단순한 차이의 존재를 넘어 사고 방식과 존재 방식의 차이를 인정하고 받아들이는 것을 의미한다. 작품의 하단에는 예수, 부처, 자유의 여신상이 등장한다. 각기 다른 문화권과 사상을 상징하는 이 인물들은 겉모습도, 상징도 다르지만 모두 공통된 가치를 지닌다. 이들은 곁에 있는 흑인 인물이 요구하며 들고 있는 팻말 DIVERSITY, HEAVEN, EQUALITY, HARMONY, FREEDOM의 키워드들과 함께 진정한 조화가 서로 다른 가치와 관점을 존중하고 이해할 때 가능함을 보여준다. 작품의 배경은 여러 색면을 구획화하여 배치함으로써 다시 한 번 더 다양성을 나타내었다. 또한 의도적으로 신표현주의적인 어린 아이와 같은 화풍을 사용함으로써 아이의 차별없는 순수한 시각을 담아내어 다양성과 조화를 강조하고자 노력하였다. 

이 작품은 조화란 같아지는 것이 아니라 다름을 존중하며 함께하는 것임을 보여준다. 다양한 철학과 문화가 공존하려면 각자의 존재를 인정하고 이해하는 태도가 필수적이다. 이 작품은 외적 완벽함을 동경하는 현대인의 허상과 진정한 다양성과 조화의 가치를 대조적으로 드러내며 서로 다른 존재들이 함께하는 사회의 가능성을 말해준다.

The world we live in is a delicate balance of harmony among all living things. This artwork captures the untouched beauty of pure nature, where flora and fauna coexist in peace, free from human interference. Set on a gentle spring day, the scene features animals awakening from their winter slumber—squirrels, deer, insects—surrounded by vibrant greenery and blooming wildflowers. 

At the heart of the painting, a golden butterfly lands softly on a human hand—a symbolic moment that bridges humanity and nature. In many cultures, butterflies symbolize joy, transformation, and hope. In the West, they represent freedom and change, while in the East, they signify love, purity, and the soul. In this work, the butterfly acts as a messenger between life and death, the earthly and the eternal—a quiet reminder of nature’s gift to humankind. 

This painting aims to remind viewers of the precious harmony we share with nature, inspiring us to cherish, protect, and live in harmony with the Earth.

This work is based on wildfires and reveals how the natural disaster is perceived based on one’s environment. Using powdered branches and leaves collected from a real fire site, I contrasted a child abandoned in front of a burnt shack with a wealthy family receiving prioritized care. This illustrates the sharp inequality within the society that is hidden and ignored by restrictive and forced harmony. This work calls for greater awareness and a more just approach to establish a harmonious society.

This work explores how different cultures, languages, nature, and modern life can exist together in harmony. The red circles on the cheeks and bold lines of the Korean 'gaksital' blend with the woman's modern makeup and expression, connecting the past and the present. The fan, ornaments, and patterns symbolize the fusion of diverse cultures into a unified form. Her hairstyle flows into a tree, emphasizing the deep connection between humans and nature. 

The city in the background represents modern life, while tradition stands out more clearly in the front. Around the image, Korean, Arabic, and Chinese texts fall and spiral through the space, showing the beauty of many languages coming together. 

This piece brings together tradition, modern design, and global culture, just like how real people are made of many layers. It’s about a complex crossroads, yet this crossroads becomes a shared space of harmony.

이 작품은 점묘법으로 구성된 풍경 안에 다양성과 조화 라는 주제를 시각화하였습니다. 우린 각자 서로 다른 수많은 개성과 특징이 있습니다, 저는 그걸 다양한 색을 지닌 점에 투영지켜 서로의 개성과 차이점을 존중해 주어야 한다는 점을 드러내고 싶었습니다. 그림에서 수많은 색점들은 저마다 다른 개성과 색을 지니고 있으나, 그것들이 서로를 함께 어우러질 때 비로소 풍경이 완성됩니다, 이는 곧 각기 다른 개성과 다양성을 가진 개개인 또는 단체가 서로 다르다는 이유로 차별받지말고 서로 존중하며 조화롭게 공존해야 한다는 점을 강조합니다 점이 모여 하나의 면이 되듯이, 점은 서로 조화를 이루어 풍경과 따듯한 햇살이 됩니다. 햇빛이 퍼지는 장면은 다양한 존재들이 하나의 빛 아래 평등하게 존재한다는, 즉 다양성이 차별 없이 연결된 세상을 표현하며, 다리와 나무는 서로 다른 세계를 이어주는 연결의 상징물로 표현 했습니다. 각각의 점이 모여 하나의 조화를 이루듯, 현대 사회에서도 인종, 성별, 문화, 이념의 차이를 넘어서 상호 존중과 이해를 통해 공동체를 형성해 나가야 한다는 메시지를 아름다운 풍경을 통해 담고 싶었습니다.

서로 다른 환경과 다양한 성격의 사람들이 감정을 표현하고, 이해하고 조화롭게 어울리는 모습을 그리고 싶었습니다. 그러나, 사람들의 성격과 표정을 특정 얼굴을 상상하며 설명하기에는 외모에 대한 고정관념으로 얼굴을 그리게 될 것 같았습니다. 그래서 사람의 얼굴대신 사람의 손을 다른 구도에서 다른 색으로 그리면서 사람들이 각자의 모습으로 맞춰가는 과정을 표현하였습니다. 제가 큐브맞추기에 도전을 하는데 생각만큼 쉽게 맞춰지지 않아서 답답하고 속상한 기억이 있습니다. 이처럼 다양한 생각을 가진 사람들을 이해하고 맞춰가는데 속상하고 답답할 수 있지만, 각자의 인내와 배려를 통해 이해하면 결국 꽃을 피우듯 서로 조화를 이루어 갈 수 있다는 것을 그림에 담았습니다.

한국에는 ‘깍두기’라는 놀이 문화가 있다. 이는 놀이에 참여하기 어려운 친구에게 먼저 다가가 함께 놀 수 있도록 배려하는 문화이다. '깍두기'는 모두가 같지 않음을 인정하고, 그것을 이해하며 함께 어울리는 데서 시작된 어린이들의 문화이다. 나는 점점 이 문화를 보기 힘들어져 슬펐던 경험이 있다. 주로 아이들 사이에서 쓰이지만, 이런 배려와 포용의 정신이 바쁜 현대 사회에서도 계속되기를 바라는 마음으로 이 작품을 그려냈다 바쁜 현대사회의 건널목에서는 모두 빨리 움직여야 하고, 시간도 제한되어 서로 신경 쓸 겨를도 없는 건널목에서 서로를 챙겨주는 깍두기 문화가 있기를 바라는 마음으로 작업했다. 예전 내가 정글짐을 못탔을 때 "너는 깍두기라 괜찮아"라고 들었던 경험을 바탕으로 건널목을 정글짐처럼 묘사했다. 정글짐 위의 큰 소녀는 어린 시절의 나이며, 손을 뻗는 아이는 깍두기 문화를 상징한다. 사람들이 모여 있어도 각자 휴대폰에 몰두하고 있는 점에서, 다양한 사람이 있어도 조화롭지 않은 현시대를 비판하고자 했다. 이를 표현하기 위해 뒷부분의 건널목을 비어 있게 연출했다. 아크릴 을 사용해 물을 섞는 양에 따라 다양한 질감을 낼 수 있는 점을 활용하여 여러 질감을 만들어 작품의 다양성을 더 강조 시켰다 바닥은 차가운 색을 사용하고 정글짐을 밝은 색을 사용해 시선 집중 되게하여 차가운 현대사회와 깍두기문화를 시각적으로 보여주고자 했다. 블랙 화이트의 건널목과는 달리 풍부한 색과 부드러운 그라데이션의 색의 변화를 넣어 차가움에서 따뜻함으로 변하는 희망을 상징하게 하여 이 주제를 극대화 했다. 이 작품을 보는 이들이 ‘깍두기’는 한국 문화이지만, 그 마음은 세계어디서나 쓸 수 있는 가치이고, 바쁜 세상에서 스쳐가는 이들이 어릴 적 놀이터에서 배운 '깍두기'의 마음을 모두가 필요하고 중요한 정신으로 느끼길 바란다.

This work is a description of different factors forming a harmony with each other in one space. Ants in the side have repetitive physicality but different pose, signifying the society full of various people's daily lives. The figure in the middle have a body part of a clock, and there is a blue diamond-patterned mask instead of a head. The clock represents a common standard of time regardless of one's character, and the mask represents one's sophisticated ego contributing to the theme of diversity. These factors all together gives a message that we live in different backgrounds serving different roles, and forming harmony maintaining each other's diversity. The complex city background signifies a social system, and the stars scattered around the space signifies numerous existence. Finally, the opened posture of hand in the middle represents the attitude of acceptance and understanding each other, and the girl beside the hand signifies how the attitude will start from next generation.

“The Killing Fields Whisper” is a semi-impressionistic painting that honors the memory of those lost during the Cambodian genocide without sensationalizing their pain. Inspired by a story shared by a Khmer grandfather, who was forced to fight against his own son on opposing sides, I explored the tragedy’s emotional complexity. Allegiances were not driven by ideology but by survival, with food scarcity so severe that it led to cannibalism. Out of respect for the sensitivity of these lived experiences, I employed a metaphor: two eyeballs—one in a skull, the other as a living head—face each other, representing both the dead and the regret-stricken survivors. Through textured strokes and deliberate composition, I aimed to evoke a haunting loss while conveying how artists navigate and communicate histories that are not their own. This work helped me see that art, when tied with authentic and ethical intent, can become symbolic for remembrance, empathy, and cultural sustainability.

"Layers of Time" is a visual representation of how uniqueness, texture, and age come together to form something whole. The surface of the artwork reveals a young woman, who depicts the fruitfulness of adolescence with the muticolored fruits and flowers engulfing her. Yet, beneath the surface, the representation of growth, maturity, innocence and awakening is shown through the intricate layering of organic elements. Each petal, each fruit, and each texture working together to symbolise the complexity of becoming. The contrast between vibrancy and stillness reflects the quiet, often unseen transformation that takes place during youth, a stage where identity begins to unfold, shaped by both internal emotion and external experience. Through visual symbolism, the work suggests that unity is not achieved by erasing difference, but by embracing the contrast and allowing it to contribute to the whole.

This still life captures the spirit of unity in diversity through an arrangement of diverse fruits. Each has their own color, shape, and origin, and with patterned ceramics and a culturally inspired cloth. Though each object is different in texture and symbolism, they come together on a single table to form a balanced, unified whole. The painting tells people to reflect on how beauty and harmony arise not from sameness, but from respecting and appreciating differences.

“네 꿈이 뭐니?” 누구나 어렸을 적 한 번쯤은 들었을 질문이다. 지금 내가 가장 많이 듣고 있는 말이다. 나는 늘 다양한 꿈을 생각하지만 정해진 꿈은 아직 없다. 그래서 내가 좋아하는 것들을 먼저 그려보았다. 우리집 강아지, 내가 좋아하는 과일, 젤리, 그림 수첩, 붓, 색연필 등 내 주변의 다양한 물건들을 하나씩 그려보면서 다양한 꿈을 그려본다. 내가 좋아하는 것들은 이렇게 많은데 내 장래희망은 ? 다음번에 내가 꿈꾸는 다양한 직업도 그려봐야겠다.

여행을 좋아하는 저는 여행 할때마다 신었던 신발이 있었습니다만, 여행 중 잃어버린 경험이 있습니다. 가장 좋아했던 신발이고, 추억이 많은 신발이였는데, 물에 떠내려간 신발에 산호초가 자라 물고기들의 보금자리를 만들어주었으면 하는 마음에 상상해서 그려보았습니다, 잃어버린 신발이 단순히 버려지는 것이 아니라 오히려 물 속에서 물고기들의 집이 되는 기능을 한다면 얼마나 좋을까? 하는 마음으로 그려보았습니다. 신발의 또 다른 기능의 다양성을 생각해 보았습니다.

우리가 모든 것을 볼때는 기준이 있습니다. 그 기준은 장소에도 포함되죠 저는 그 경계를 허물고 자유로운 그림을 그리고 실었습니다. 바다에서는 물고기가 살고 지상에서 사람과 건물, 하늘에는 구름과 파란하늘이 있죠 하지만 저는 파란 하늘과 파란 바다를 이용하여 바다에 있는 것과 지상에 있는것 같은 느낌을 주었습니다. 이렇게 하여 이 그림에 장소가 바다인지 땅인지 하늘이지 다시한번 생각하게 하였습니다. 이세가지를 하나로 만들어서 마치 우리가 정항 기준을 넘나들게 한 것처럼 만들었습니다. 제목에 사용한 유영(游泳)은 이리저리 떠돌아다니는 알이라는 뜻을 가짐으로 이 표현을 사용하여 다시 한번 그 경계를 흐리게 만듬을 강조하였습니다.

시간 속에는 서로 다른 신념과 가치관을 가진 사람들의 이야기가 쌓여 있습니다. 그 하나하나가 모여 결국 역사를 이룹니다. 이 그림은 그런 역사의 한 단면을 담고자 했습니다. 정면으로 이어진 거리 위, 찢어진 종이를 뚫고 나온 주사기, 십자가를 쥔 성직자의 손, 그리고 흑사병 의사 가면은 각자의 방식으로 시대에 반응했던 사람들의 상징입니다. 주어진 상황 속에서 누군가는 기도했고, 누군가는 치료했으며, 또 누군가는 공포를 견뎠습니다. 서로 다르지만, 이들이 함께 어우러졌기에 오늘의 우리가 있게 되었습니다. 갈등 또한 배제되지 않고, 하나의 작용으로 작동하며, 결국 그 모두가 역사의 일부가 됩니다. 역사는 어떤 하나의 목소리가 아니라, 저마다의 선택과 신념, 흔들림이 겹겹이 쌓여 만들어지는 책 같은 것입니다. 이 작품은 그 다양한 조각들이 부딪히고 겹쳐지며 만들어낸 ‘조화’를 담고자 했습니다

그림 속 도서관은 ‘어린 왕자’라는 책을 여러 언어로 표현하여 조화로움 속에서도 개개인의 특성을 잃지 않는 모습을 책마다 다른 색으로 표현하였고, 다른 언어를 사용함에도 하나가 될 수 있음을 나무로 표현하였습니다. 그림 속의 여러 색상은 다양성을 표현하고 있으며 이러한 다양성을 더욱 강조하기 위해 배경을 흑백으로 하였습니다. 

우측 하단은 여러 나라의 글자들이 서로 어울어져 있는 모습을 시각적으로 표현하였습니다. 이는 여러 나라를 여행하며 모든 나라들이 더욱 소통하고 연결되었으면 하는 마음으로 ‘언어의 조화’라는 주제를 택했습니다.

This artwork captures a surreal underwater scene centered around the expressive eye of a whale. Surrounding the eye are five vividly colored fish and a stingray, emerging in front of the artwork. A scuba diver hovers above, adding a sense of scale. The contrast between the realistic marine elements and the unrealistic arrangement allows viewers to explore the layers of ocean life and a theme of coexistence between diverse creatures.

깊은 물속에서 복잡하고 다양한 감정에 잠겨 점점 가라앉던 인물이 숨이 막혀 세상 밖으로 올라오는 순간을 표현한 그림입니다. 이 장면은 마음속 어둡고 혼란스러운 감정들을 마주한 끝에, 마침내 숨을 내쉬며 바깥 세상과 연결하고 조화를 이루려는 순간을 상징합니다. 내면의 다양한 감정들이 억눌림이 아닌 표현과 해소를 통해 세상과 연결되는 과정을 담아, 다양성 속의 진정한 조화를 그려냈습니다. 

This artwork depicts a figure sinking deep into the water, overwhelmed by complex and dark emotions. At the moment when breathing becomes unbearable, the figure rises toward the surface. This scene symbolizes the process of confronting and releasing inner turmoil, leading to a reconnection with the outside world. Through the expression—not suppression—of diverse emotions, the piece conveys a message of achieving true harmony within diversity.

This artwork represents the harmony that each elements create. Based on the building on the center, each side of the drawing represents a humid biome and a cleaned street of a city. The Silica Gel packets symbolizes dryness and the trial to purify the street while the mushrooms on the left symbolizes the corruption of the back street. By the " Do not enter " sign placed on the center of the drawing, the two elements not meet each other and creates a harmony of nature and living in the same street.

정글 속 다양한 생명들이 어우러지는 모습을 표현하고자 하였습니다. 빨간 점들은 우연히 찍은 것이 아니라, 카멜레온과 뱀의 눈, 뱀의 몸통, 잎사귀 등 각각의 요소에 의도적으로 배치하였습니다. 이를 통해 어지러운 정글 속 생명체들의 조화를 나타내고 싶었습니다.

This piece showcases a traditional Korean wedding robe, brought to life with vivid colors and the use of Obangsaek—the five traditional Korean colors symbolizing balance and harmony. The robe is adorned with intricate patterns rooted in Korean heritage, blended in a way that reflects unity within diversity. 

Historically, a wedding robe is worn by everyone at least once in their lifetime, regardless of social class, background, or family origin. On the day of the wedding, the bride transcends her status and becomes part of a greater union, where everyone stands as equals, connected through the shared celebration of love and commitment. 

This work aims to visually represent how individual differences can coexist beautifully, and how diverse identities can be woven into one harmonious whole during moments of union. It’s a tribute to the idea that true harmony doesn’t erase differences—it embraces them.

This painting shows the process of making Kimbap, with various unprepared ingredients—such as carrot, cucumber, burdock, egg, spinach, and radish—laid out in black and white in the lower half, and a finished, colorful Kimbap held in a hand at the top. 

The composition captures the moment when these separate parts come together to form one complete dish. This transformation symbolizes the theme of "harmony through diversity." The black-and-white ingredients represent individuals before birth, each carrying unique qualities. As they come together to form a single Kimbap, it reflects how people from different backgrounds unite to live together in harmony. The fact that each ingredient keeps its own color and shape in the final product shows how individuality can be preserved within a cohesive and diverse community.

Seoul is a place of coexistence between tradition and change where hanok buildings of the past rest beneath neon lights that shine and glimmer. Korean history does not appear but quietly underlies the modern rhythm of life. In my artwork 'Diverse Seoul', I set bright and transparent advertising signs which represent global brands, multicultural foods, and modern subcultures above the background drawing of an old Korean alleyway. I used white pen for the background and colored pencil for neon signs. By this contrast I wanted to show that the past does not vanish but becomes the implicit background against which new communities, new voices, and new identities are inscribed. I believe that recognizing the importance of diversity whether cultural, generational, or social is essential for any transforming society. Through my work 'Diverse Seoul' I tried to express my point of view of the beauty of Korea's diversity shown in Seoul as a mixture of the past and present.

Each holding their own stories, and cultures. Its towering steel arches and endless cables remind us of the strength found in diversity and each intricate design showing the beauty of unity.

This artwork shows how people have many different sides—some we show, some we hide. Each face in the boxes is a part of a person’s feelings: fear, anger, confusion, hope, and more. The big face in the center is a mix of all those feelings, showing how hard it is to understand ourselves. The flower over the eye means growth, but also how we cover things up to look okay. Bright colors show strong emotions, and strange shapes remind us that people are not always what they seem. This piece asks us to look deeper—not just at others, but at ourselves.

구절판은 아홉 칸에 각각 다른 색과 맛, 재료들이 담겨 있지만, 그것들이 함께 모여 하나의 음식이 됩니다. 저는 이 전통음식을 통해 다양성 속의 조화를 표현하고 싶었습니다. 각각의 재료는 사람들의 개성과 문화를 상징하며, 그 모두가 어우러져 아름다운 하나의 공동체를 이룹니다. 구절판 속의 재료들이 제자리를 지키며 조화를 이루는 모습처럼, 우리 사회도 서로 다름을 인정하고 존중할 때 진정한 아름다움이 탄생한다고 생각합니다. 이 그림은 단지 음식을 그린 것이 아니라, 다양성과 조화가 함께 살아 숨 쉬는 세상을 바라는 제 마음을 담은 작품입니다. 

Gujeolpan is a traditional Korean dish consisting of nine compartments, each filled with ingredients of different colors, flavors, and textures. Though each is unique, they come together to form a single, harmonious dish. Through this traditional food, I wanted to express the idea of harmony within diversity. Each ingredient represents the individuality and culture of people, and when brought together, they create a beautiful and unified community. Just as the ingredients in gujeolpan stay in their place yet complement one another, I believe true beauty arises in our society when we acknowledge and respect our differences. 이 작품은 망가진 고대유적을 새롭게 복원 시키는 과정을 구현해내고 있습니다. 돌을 쌓거나 콘크리트를 부어 망가진 유적의 벽면을 다시 짓는 방법이 아닌, 망가진 고대유적에 빛을 쏘는 홀로그램을 이용하는 방식은 과거의 건축물에 현대적인 언어를 더하여 새로운 모습으로 다시 태어나는 과정이며 시대를 초월하는 시간의 공존을 의미 합니다. 홀로그램으로 재구축된 유적 속에는 해파리, 고래, 뱀 등, 각기 다른 서식지에 서식하는 생물들의 모습이 그려져있습니다. 이러한 각기 다른 서식지의 생물들이 과거의 흔적인 유적에 존재하며 동시에 현대의 기술인 홀로그램속에 공존하는 모습을 통해 시간, 공간, 그리고 종을 초월한 공존을 다채롭게 표현하고자 했습니다. 이 작품은 각기 다른 생물들이 과거와 현재에 동시에 존재하며 조화를 이루는 모습을 통해 과거를 통해 현재와 미래를 보고 다양성이 공존하는 행복하고 평화로운 세상이 되기를 바라는 소망이 담겨 있습니다.

Through experincing academic stress throughout my junior years, my eczema re-surfaced. To numb out the itch, I would often portray myself with characteristics of eczema in drawings. Because experiencing eczema felt as if ants lived in my body, I featured an ant house inside my body , needing to endure all the ant bites. To show irritation, I used a bright coral contrast with a deep blue background that portrays acceptance.

n the middle of a shelf sits an old, worn-out book titled the “Lame Book.” Its cover is torn, bleached, and muted. It is different from the covers that surround it, each boasting and representing words that reflect beauty, charm, and popularity. Yet, something miraculous happens: when someone finally pauses to notice the unattractive book, flowers begin to bloom around its battered edges. People are like books, each with a unique cover, a different story, and depths that can’t be judged at first glance. In a world obsessed with appearance and prestige, we often overlook those who don’t meet conventional standards. 

But just like the “Lame Book,” what seems neglected can reveal great meaning when approached with care. For humans like us, we all have the potential to flourish when met with kindness and attention. Real unity comes from embracing and welcoming our differences. Diversity should not become a challenge, but a beautiful harmony.

"pixel.persona" is a realistic yet abstract self-portrait, depicting a distorted version of my face on a blueprint. It symbolizes both the ever-changing and unique nature of the human visage. Akin to a video game character selection interface, the different pixels show how each aspect of one’s face is susceptible to change and never the same. Expressions, perspective, lighting, bruises, different stages of life, all impact how our face is perceived, creating a diverse spectrum of what one will look like. This portrait of myself encapsulates the diversity of faces that I hold, altering every single moment. This very fact is also why I believe this portrait of myself is timeless, as the pixels account for the infinite variations of my face. Furthermore, the array of pixels surrounding my face emphasizes how our faces themselves are a representation of diversity itself, as we inherit different “pixels” from our ancestors, and our diverse backgrounds tend to shape what we look like.

Beauty may appear to be something people desire, but behind it lies pain and control. Like an "ice flower" that blooms brilliantly only to melt away, it symbolizes the struggle of holding on as it melts. The tears shed in pursuit of dreams are not merely tears of sadness, but part of the process of blooming again. To those who continue to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams, even amidst the cheers or criticism of others, this conveys the hope that their tears will become the foundation for new growth.

'Presence' is work that explores paranoia, seduction, and overthinking in a movie scenario. The artwork shows a man on fire in bed, his wife sleeping next to him, and a prostitute smoking a cigarette, which caused the fire from the ashes. Influenced by absurdism and French New Wave films, the artwork portrays a hyper-real but psychologically off-the-rails scene. The man's suffering is genuine, but his paranoia is the real fire. The painting emphasizes the psychological advantage of the prostitute, with the perspective of the room pulling one into the whirlpool of the world. The combination of fierce oranges and dreamlike magentas creates a dissonant background, and the viseral paranoia moves closer to the skin.

'다양성 속의 조화' 라는 주제를 음식이라는 친숙하고 다채로운 소재를 통해 풀어냈다. 각기 다른 음식들은 서로 다른 문화, 성격, 정체성을 상징한다. 롤케이크 기차는 서양의 디저트를, 달걀 프라이는 익숙한 일상 식사를, 젤리 동물과 쿠키는 동화적 상상과 유년의 세계를 대표하며 유희성과 자유를 나타낸다. 체리와 과일, 아이스크림은 다양한 취향과 감각을 반영하며 마카롱과 도넛, 사탕들은 색다른 문화와 취향의 혼합을 나타낸다. 중앙의 입과 눈은 이 모든 다름을 포용하는 상징적 존재로, '입'은 단순히 음식을 먹는 공간이 아니라 다양한 정체성과 문화를 수용하고 즐기는 '조화의 장'으로 표현된다. 입속이라는 경계 없는 공간 안에서 음식들은 경쟁하거나 충돌하지 않고, 오히려 서로의 개성을 드러내며 더 풍부하고 재미있는 장면을 만들어낸다. 이 음식들이 우리 몸속에 들어가 많은 영양소가 되어 몸에 도움이 되듯이 다양한 것들의 조화가 우리 사회에 많은 도움이 될 것 같다 라는 생각이 든다.

이 작품의 주인공은 해파리입니다. 처음엔 빛과 해파리만으로 구성하려 했으나, 구성이 다소 단조롭게 느껴져 바다의 상징인 고래를 더하게 되었고, 의외의 조합 속에서 조화를 찾아보고자 했습니다. 하늘에서 빛나는 별빛과 바다에서 스스로 빛나는 해파리는 서로 다른 공간에 존재하지만, 둘 다 아름답게 빛난다는 공통점을 가집니다. 그렇게 하늘과 바다, 해파리와 고래, 서로 다른 존재들이 어우러져 하나의 몽환적인 풍경을 이룬다고 생각합니다. 또한 제가 하늘과 바다를 모두 좋아하기에, 이 그림은 저만의 방식으로 다양성의 조화를 표현한 시도이기도 합니다.

“Childhood Play” is an artwork that symbolises the diversity and togetherness we had while we were young. The child sits around filled with various different types of toys with each unique appearance and origin, yet chosen by pure joy and curiosity. With no bias, then colourful toys gather all together to create harmony. This reminds us what we lose as we grow, the ability to embrace difference without judgement.

종알종알 말을 하고 어린이집에 다니기 시작하면서 엄마가 사주신 장난감 한글 퍼즐. 퍼즐을 맞추면 글자가 완성되고 글자를 맞추려고 열심히 본 알록 달록 예쁜 그림들. 저에겐 즐거운 추억이었고 글자 공부에도 도움이 되었습니다. 

요새 학교에서는 저와 모습이 조금 다른 친구들이 보이기 시작했습니다. 모습은 다르지만 저와 같이 뛰어 놀고 한국어로 대화합니다. 단일민족국가라 여겼던 우리나라에도 외국인들과 다문화 가정들이 늘어나고 있습니다. 이 아이들이 대한민국에서 편하게 지내려면 한글을 빨리 배워야하는데, 음식을 주제로 우리나라 음식과 우리나라에서 유명한 다른 나라의 음식을 활용해 좀 더 쉽게 한글을 이해하는데 도움을 주고 싶어서 새롭게 한글퍼즐을 만들어보았습니다. 모습은 조금 다른 아이들이 쉽게 한글을 배워서 우리와 조화롭게 지내면 좋겠습니다.

This piece explores the theme of “coexistence across generations” by illustrating how empathy and connection arise from the interwoven lives of different age groups. Inspired by the saying “Don’t miss the forest for the trees,” the piece initially appears to show simple foliage, but closer observation reveals that the leaves are clusters of hydrangeas, symbolizing individuality within unity. Women at various life stages—children, adolescents, adults, and elders—occupy separate trees, highlighting generational contrast. Yet their trees intertwine, branches crossing and linking, showing how shared spaces and mutual understanding can bridge generational divides. This draws from my experience in the Art Healing Project, where women—students, single mothers, and local elders—heal and connect through art. From this, I realized that empathy is not built through words alone, but through coexistence and presence. In this forest, coexistence isn’t an ideal—it’s a living, breathing beauty.

This artwork represents a symbolic gateway composed of geometric shapes inspired by the diverse cultures I’ve encountered through travel and personal experiences. 

Each form reflects traditional patterns, color palettes, and architectural styles from different countries, woven together to create a unified passage. More than just a doorway, this piece embodies the idea that distinct cultures can coexist and blend without conflict. Passing through these shapes symbolizes an open-minded approach to unfamiliar traditions and a willingness to engage with them. 

In doing so, we connect with a broader world and cultivate a richer, more layered identity. This work is a celebration of cultural connection and the beauty of diversity — a visual reminder that harmony can emerge when we embrace difference with curiosity and respect.

저희 집에는 여러 가지 유리 모양으로 이루어진 작은 샹들리에가 있습니다. 저는 항상 그 조명을 바라볼 때마다, 빛을 반사하는 모습이 정말 아름답고, 매번 새롭다고 느낍니다. 한 줄기의 빛이 샹들리에를 통과하며 수백 개의 색으로 퍼지듯, 우리의 삶에서의 다양성은 세상을 더 풍요롭게 만든다고 생각합니다. 빛이 제각각 다른 방향으로 퍼져나가는 것은 개개인의 특별한 생각과 존재를 상징합니다. 저는 샹들리에를 다양한 조각의 조화로운 집합체라고 생각합니다. 샹들리에는 수많은 크리스탈 조각, 유리, 등이 함께 어우러져 하나의 찬란한 형태를 이룹니다. 서로 다른 모양과 색, 역할을 지녔지만 빛을 반사하며 조화를 이룬다는 점에서 다양성의 아름다움을 상징한다고 생각합니다. 특히, 그림 속 샹들리에에서 반사된 빛이 벽에 반사될때 비친 모습에서 약간의 사람의 손처럼 보입니다. 저는 이것이 샹들리에의 각기 다른 조각에서 퍼져나간 빛들이 사람의 손을 향상화 하면서 각자 다른 존재들이 함께할때 공동체가 만들어 진다는 것을 표현했습니다. 샹들리에는 모든 조각이 빛날 수 있는 구조를 가지고 있다는 점에서 가장 특별합니다. 다양성의 조화란, 우리 모두가 서로의 다름을 존중하고 각자의 고유한 빛깔이 함께 모일 때 나타납니다. 이는 각각의 빛이 하나로 모여 찬란해지는 과정이라고 생각합니다.

Our identities are not formed in isolation, but are continuously shaped through encounters with those different from us. Two distinct faces overlap on a single canvas. One is rendered in oil pastel, the other in acrylic paint. Each medium retains its own texture and color, yet they come together without conflict, in quiet harmony. This symbolizes that identity is not fixed but fluid. Each carries countless stories, backgrounds, and cultural layers within a single face. Our differences are not barriers to, harmony but essential elements that broaden the spectrum of who we are. Diversity does not divide us. It has the power to connect us more deeply. I believe that difference does not erase, but enriches. Through tension and coexistence, something new and meaningful can emerge. This work stands on that belief. A face is a reflection of all the encounters and influences that shape us. We grow, evolve, and diversify through our relationships—and in that diversity, we find true harmony

This painting shows the beauty of diversity by bringing together many different parts of nature into one magical and peaceful scene. Inside the round glass globe, we can see a deer and a fox, along with colorful flowers, tall plants, coral, and even jellyfish. These animals and plants usually live in very different environments, such as forests, oceans, and different climates, but here they all exist in harmony. The artist uses bright colors and detailed shapes to make each part stand out while still fitting perfectly into the whole image. Even things that are very different, like bare trees and blooming flowers, look natural together in the same space. This peaceful mix of land, sea, and plant life shows us that nature is stronger and more beautiful when it is diverse. The globe feels like a small version of Earth, where every form of life has a place and a purpose.
